Dr. Lee Louis Alvin Johnson

September 14, 1933 ~ November 30, 2017 (age 84) 84 Years Old


Dr. Lee Louis Alvin Johnson, 84, died Thursday November 30th.  Dr. Johnson spent his life pledged to the Hippocratic Oath, treating others to help them live their best lives possible.   

 

Dr. Johnson was born September 14th, 1933 in Litchfield, IL., the son of Henry and Violet (Golch)  Johnson.

 

A 1951 graduate of Staunton High School, Lee received a full scholarship to Washington University to begin his study of medicine.  Graduating with honors, he was the first of his family to go college.  He served in the US Army,  then went to the University of Illinois – Chicago for Medical School and was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha the Medical Honor Society. 

 

Lee was passionate about helping others, running a successful medical practice in Staunton.  Lee served many hospitals as a Trauma Doctor in Emergency Care and ended his professional career as a Staff Physician and Medical Director at Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville.  An active member of the American Medical Association, he served as an Illinois State Delegate from 1977-1980.  Lee was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Staunton, serving as Elder.

 

Lee loved his family and his dogs. He was an active gardener and enjoyed working outside.  His sense of humor could light up a room.  He was never afraid to tell you what he thought. 

 

Lee married the angel in his life, Janet (Finke) Johnson and the Lord blessed them with three children Doug (and Wendy) Johnson of Troy IL, Matthew (and Lara) Johnson of Edwardsville, IL and Jayne (and David) Wells of Staunton, IL all who survive him.  Lee is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Michael, Derek, Alyssa (and husband Keith), Kayla, Alyssa, Adam and Samantha and two greatgrandchildren Cooper and Lily.  He is survived by his sister, Ellen Ruzevich and many nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his mother, father and his brother Leonard.

 

Friends may call from 5 to 7 PM on Tuesday at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton.  Funeral Services at 10 AM on Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Staunton, with burial in RoseLawn

Memory Gardens – Bethalto, Illinois.  Memorials are suggested to either the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) or to Zion Lutheran Church of Staunton.
