Silas M. Burgess, 80, of Staunton, IL passed away peacefully with family by his side on Sunday, January 16, 2022, at his residence in Staunton. Born October 10, 1941, in McNabb, IL, he was a son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Louis and Oma (Mayberry) Burgess. He married E. Diane Barfield on April 20, 1985, and she passed away on January 29, 2012. He worked as a Truck Driver for Hansen Trucking in Granite City, IL for over 20 years. Silas was a big family guy. He was a Drag Racing fanatic. He enjoyed fishing, being outdoors, and liked baseball (St. Louis Cardinals)
He is survived by 1 daughter, Robin Booth of Jerseyville, IL; 3 sons, Douglas (Leanne) Burgess of Brighton, IL, Michael Burgess of White Hall, IL, and Darren Burgess of Mitchell, IL; 9 grandchildren, Ellen (Chris) Mathenia, Samantha (Andrew) Wood, Douglas Burgess Jr., Megan (Steven) Vonnahmen, Danielle (Kyle) Moore, Destiny Burgess, Amanda Burgess, James Burgess, and Allianna Burgess; 11 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Wanda Schafer of Bowling Green, KY and June (Darrell) Nash of Jerseyville, IL. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Ray Burgess; 4 brothers, Otis, Louis, Wayne, and Lawrence Burgess.
Friends may call from 10 AM to 12 noon on Friday, January 21, 2022, at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton. Funeral services will follow at 12 noon at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton with Pastor Nancy Hubert officiating. Burial will be held at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Glen Carbon, IL. Memorials are suggested to the family.
