Sandra Kay (Oettel) Young

Sandra Kay Young, 78, of Staunton, IL, passed away at 6:24 AM on Thursday, July 9, 2026 at her residence with family by her side.  She was born February 15, 1948 in Litchfield, IL, the daughter of the late Dean & Ruth (Weber) Oettel.  She married Arthur Young on November 22, 1969 at Zion Lutheran Church in Staunton, IL & he survives.

Sandra was employed as a Registered Nurse at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO for over 25 years.  She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, enjoyed refurbishing antique furniture, loved traveling, & was a devout Christian.

She is survived by her husband -  Arthur Young of Staunton, IL;  two step children -  Dawn (Robert) Groff of Phoenix, AZ,  &  Jeffrey (Cindy) Young of Fort Worth, TX;  three sons -  Bradley (Jennifer) Young of Staunton, IL,  Brandon Young of Joliet, IL,  &  Kevin (Stephanie) Young of Staunton, IL;  21 grandchildren;  several great grandchildren;  two sisters -  Polly Gai of Godfrey, IL,  &  Christine Klein of St. Louis, MO;  numerous nieces, nephews, & cousins also survive.  Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one son -  Brian Young;  &  one grandchild -  Taylor Young.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton, IL.  Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Wednesday, July 15, 2026 at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton, IL, with Pastor Don Stevens officiating.  Burial will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.
