Richard D. Schmitt

Richard D. Schmitt, 70 of Staunton, IL passed away Monday, January 18, 2021 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL. Born December 9, 1950 in Highland, IL, he was a son of the Late Mr. & Mrs. Louis & Doris (Gaertner) Schmitt. He married Laverne Jones on January 10, 1970 and she survives. Richard served in the U.S. Army from March of 1970 to December of 1972. He worked as a Supervisor with Basler Electric in Highland, IL for many years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Highland, IL.

He is survived by his wife, Laverne Schmitt of Staunton, Illinois, 3 Sons -Jeff (Jamie) Schmitt of Belleville, Illinois, Justin Schmitt (Jennifer Clemings) of Benld, Illinois, Joseph (Erin) Schmitt of Troy, Illinois, 11 Grandchildren -      Logan, Cadence, Brenna, Braden, Charlotte, Benjamin, Gracey, Jordan, Searra, Addison, & Zoe, 2 Brothers - Gerald “Butch” Schmitt of Highland, Illinois and Robert Schmitt of St. Jacob, Illinois. Several Nieces & Nephews also survive. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 Sister – Karen Row.
