Peter Joseph Matesa, 76, of Williamson, IL, passed away at 2:30 AM on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at Community Hospital of Staunton, IL. He was born October 14, 1947 in Litchfield, IL, the son of the late Peter & Betty (Maguire) Matesa. He married Vickie Cagle on November 29, 1969 in Livingston, IL & she survives.
Pete was a Union Carpenter with Local #633 in Granite City, IL, & was also a Vietnam Veteran, serving in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Livingston, IL, Past Chief of Williamson Fire Department, Post Commander Staunton American Legion Post #362, A "DieHard" Livingston Blue Seal Player/Manager, member of Staunton Sportsman's Club, & an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
He is survived by his wife - Vickie Matesa of Williamson, IL; two sons - Chad Matesa of Williamson, IL, & Joe Matesa of Staunton, IL; three grandchildren - Samantha Matesa (fiance' Shaun Bettig) of Collinsville, IL, Olivia Matesa of Staunton, IL, & Caitlynn Matesa of Staunton, IL; one brother - Jim (Kim) Matesa of Benld, IL; one sister - Pat (Gary) Rowe of Mackinaw, IL; & several nieces, nephews, & cousins also survive.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 PM on Monday, March 18, 2024 at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton, IL. No funeral services are scheduled at this time. Interment will be held at a later date in New Douglas City Cemetery in New Douglas, Illinois. The Staunton Military Honor Guard will conduct graveside military rites at a later date.
Memorials are suggested to either Staunton American Legion Post #362, Olive Fire Protection District, or to the family.
