Paul Otto Hering, 91, of Staunton died Sunday, February 16, 2020 at Heritage Health in Staunton. He was born on February 20, 1928 in Hamel, IL to the late William H. and Meta (Engelke) Hering. He married Ruby Anne Guebert on June 13, 1953 in Red Bud, IL and she survives. He was a retired truck driver, driving for Cassens Transport for 35 years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Hamel, St. Louis Teamsters Local # 604, Alhambra American Legion Post # 1147, Staunton VFW Post # 1241, and was a City of Staunton Alderman for 12 years.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ruby Hering of Staunton, 5 children, David (Robin) Hering, Paula (John) Snyder, Karen (Eric) Stark, John (Matt Vonk) Hering, and Mary (Tom) Scherff, 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, brother, Melvin (Laverne) Hering, and brother-in-law, Dennis Hunnicutt. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Lucille Hunnicutt.
Friends may call from 4 – 7 PM on Friday at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton and again on Saturday, from 10 – 11 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hamel, IL. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 22 at 11 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hamel with Rev. William Gleason officiating. Burial will be held at St. Paul Cemetery in Hamel, IL. The Staunton Military Honor Guard will conduct Military Rites. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul Lutheran Church of Hamel, Heritage Health of Staunton, or to Heartland Hospice.
