Norma J. Mahanay, 87, of East Alton, IL - formerly of Staunton, IL, passed away on Friday, November 18, 2022 at her residence in East Alton, Illinois after many years of loving & caring for others. She was born March 12, 1935 in White City, Illinois, the daughter of the late Harley F. & Edna M. (Muck) Colbert. She was married to Richard U. Eller Sr. from 1951 to 1972, & to Alba E. Mahanay from 1973 to 2012. Both husbands preceded her in death.
Norma was employed as a sheet metal riveter at Propellex, Emerson Electric, & Chrysler, before retiring from McDonnell Douglas/Boeing. "She was the best mother & grandmother a child could have".
She is survived by her children - Bandy M. Eller of Dow, IL, Richard U. (Arlene) Eller Jr. of Worden, IL, Andy L. Eller (Laurie Avery) of Virginia, Charlotte L. (Marvin) Dunmire of Staunton, IL, David G. (Debra) Eller of Raymore, MO, Helen D. Brown (Kathy Marquis) of Alton, IL, theresa F. Taylor of East Alton, IL, Brian P.E. Mahanay (Bonnie Riedman) of Hartford, IL, Debbie Mahanay of East Alton, IL, & Candice Mahanay of O'Fallon, MO; 24 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; & 8 great great grandchildren. Besides her husband & parents, she was preceded in death by 3 sisters - Velma McPhereson, Etta Brown, & Wilma Williams; 3 brothers - John, Bobby, & Bill Colbert; & 5 grandchildren.
Friends may call from 10 to 11 AM on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton, IL. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton, IL with David Eller officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Staunton, IL. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
