Norene E. (Sievers) Halavonich

Norene E. Halavonich, 99 of Staunton, Illinois passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at Community Memorial Hospital in Staunton. Born September 10, 1918 in Hamel, Illinois, she was a daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Albert Sievers. She married John Halavonich on December 3, 1983 and he survives. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Staunton. Norene, along with her husband, ran the Crystal Ballroom in Staunton for many years. She enjoyed dancing and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, John Halavonich of Staunton, IL; 2 daughters, Lois (Ron) Neal & Elaine (Greg) Bishop; daughter-in-law, Phyllis Gerson; step-daughter, Nancy (David) McMaster; grandchildren, Jacqueline Neal, Steve (Tammy) Kidd, & Jeff Kidd; step-granddaughters, Theresa (Christopher) Fehring & Sarah (Ryan) Lewis; 4 step great grandsons & 1 step great granddaughter. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Besides her parents, Norene was preceded in death by 2 husbands, Emil Gerson & Wilber Kurman; 1 son, Gary Gerson; 1 brother, Alvin Sievers; 5 sisters, Amanda Davis, Lydia Schoettle, Viola Stille, Irma Sievers, & Marie Slaby.

Friends may call from 9 to 10 AM on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Staunton. Funeral services will follow at 10 AM with Rev. Debbie Jo Atkins officiating. Burial will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Gillespie, IL. Memorials are suggested to either St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Staunton or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
