Mike “Tasty” McDole, 72, of Clayton, California, passed away peacefully at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 4, 2020 at his home in Clayton with his 2 sons, Mark McDole and Lee McDole by his side.
He was born August 28, 1948 in Chicago, Illinois, to John and Betty (Foley) McDole.
He married Janet Sue DalPozzo McDole on December 26, 1970, and she passed away on September 8, 2001.
He was a world-renowned homebrewer, and rose to fame after winning numerous brewing competitions including the Sam Adams Longshot competition. He went on to brew collaboration beers with many commercial breweries including Russian River, 21st Amendment, and Heretic. His most famous beer recipe was Janet’s Brown Ale, named after his late wife.
Prior to his homebrewing fame, he worked as a computer programmer for over 40 years, and truly enjoyed his work.
He was a loving and involved father and grandfather, coaching little league teams with his son and baking cupcakes with his grandson.
He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Lee McDole and Janai West of San Leandro, California, and Mark McDole of Champaign, Illinois, two grandchildren Miles and Calvin McDole, 2 brothers, Jack McDole of Edwardsville, IL, and Dan McDole of Staunton, IL, and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Friday, October 16th from 5 - 8PM at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton, IL. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 17th, 2020 at 10AM at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton, IL. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Staunton, IL.
