Michael L. Pernicka Sr., 72, of Staunton, IL, passed away at 9:01 AM on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at Community Hospital of Staunton, IL. He was born October 19, 1951 in Staunton, IL, the son of the late Frank Pernicka & Dorothy (McGill) Pernicka Sanders. He married Debra Best on February 9, 1973 in Godfrey, IL & she survives.
Mike was a Pipefitter/Supervisor of Maintenance at Granite City Steel in Granite City, IL for many years. He was also an instructor at SWIC. He was a member of the Prairietown Volunteer Fire Department in Prairietown, IL. Mike's passion was working with computers & he was always telling jokes.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years - Debra Pernicka of Staunton, IL; three sons - Michael Pernicka Jr. of Staunton, IL, Shawn Pernicka of Sawyerville, IL, & Blake Pernicka of Prairietown, IL; eight grandchildren & four great grandchildren; one sister - Connie Bergschneider of Farmersville, IL; & several nieces, nephews, & cousins also survive. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law - Gary Bergschneider.
Graveside services will be held at a later date at Tine Sawyer Cemetery near Staunton, IL. Memorials are suggested to the American Kidney Fund (give.kidneyfund.org).
