Melvin C. Sievers, 90, of Staunton, IL, passed away on Friday, February 6, 2026 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL. He was born March 9, 1935 in Olive Township, Madison County, IL, the son of the late Edwin & Esther (Sievers) Sievers Sr. He married Lucille E. Brase on October 6, 1962 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hamel, IL & she survives.
Melvin was a self-employed farmer, farming all of his life on the family farm & thoroughly enjoyed his cattle & his 50+ years of dartball. He also enjoyed polka dances. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hamel, IL & served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1957 to 1963.
He is survived by his wife - Lucille Sievers; one daughter - Janice (Chris) McCalla; one son - Dean (Linda) Sievers; four grandchildren - Craig (Maggie) McCalla, Stacey (Geoffrey) Kleiboeker, Carrie (Jon) Mansholt, & Rebecca (Christopher) Royer; eight great grandchildren - Molly, Claire, & Grant McCalla, Gavin & Elaine Kleiboeker, Adelynn & Nash Mansholt, & Lane Royer; one sister - Velma (Don) Granda; two sisters-in-law - Carmen Sievers & Helen Brase; & several nieces & nephews also survive. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother - Edwin "Sonny" Sievers Jr.; one brother-in-law - Lloyd Brase; & his in-laws - George & Helen Brase.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 PM on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton, IL, & again from 9 to 10 AM on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hamel, IL. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hamel, IL, with Rev. Benjamin Ball officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Hamel, IL.
Memorials are suggested to either St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery or to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
