Maurine J. (Wells) Ondes

Maurine J. Ondes, 96, of Livingston, IL, passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.  She was born June 9, 1930 in Mulberry Grove, IL, the daughter of the late Leo & Dana (Griggs) Wells.  Maurine lived a long & meaningful life centered on faith, family, hard work, & the simple joys of home.  She married Melvin J. Ondes on June 23, 1951, & they shared more than 65 years of marriage before his passing on January 6, 2017.

Maurine will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, & great great grandmother whose love for her family was evident in everything she did.  She created a welcoming home, offered steady care & encouragement, & found joy in gathering loved ones together around good food, conversation, & shared memories.

She is survived by four children -  Steven (Patty) Ondes of Staunton, IL,  David (Denise) Ondes of Staunton, IL,  Mark Ondes of Livingston, IL,  &  Diane (Patrick) Ryan of Crestwood, KY;  seven grandchildren -  Tina (Colin) Fries,  Angela Ondes,  Bryan (Heather) Ondes,  Stephanie (Sam) Stahlhut,  Nicholas (Hannah) Ondes,  Sarah (Lance) Johnson,  &  Joseph Ryan;  seven great grandchildren -  Kaylie & Raechel Stahlhut,  Dalton Ondes,  Mason & Elissa Fries,  &  Dawson & Dakota Ondes;  & a great great granddaughter -  Amiyah Stahlhut.

Besides her husband & parents, she was preceded in death by one son -  Perry Ondes;  a great granddaughter -  Natalea Ondes;  a sister -  Nelda Goodin;  & a brother -  Lowell Wells.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 AM on Friday, July 31, 2026 at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton, IL.  Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Friday, July 31, 2026 at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton, IL, with Pastor Gary Hanover officiating.  Burial will follow at Spangle Cemetery near Livingston, IL.

Memorials are suggested to either the Livingston Rescue Squad or to Disabled American Veterans.
