Mark Wayne Mathenia, 64, of Staunton, IL, passed away at 1:19 AM on Sunday, January 28, 2024 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, IL with family by his side. He was born March 28, 1959 in East St. Louis, IL, the son of the late G.L. & Imogene (Smith) Mathenia. He married Claudia Robinson & she survives.
Mark served in the Army National Guard from 1977 to 1985, & retired from Heritage Environmental Service. He also served as a Pastor at First General Baptist Church in Staunton, IL for several years. He was a member of the Patriot Guard. He loved spending time with his grandkids, boating & fishing, & riding his motorcycle. He also enjoyed racing his race car, & was an avid wrestling fan.
He is survived by his wife - Claudia Mathenia; two children - Amanda (Jim) Daughtery, Chris (Ellen) Mathenia; ten grandchildren; three great grandchildren; five siblings - Paul Mathenia, Rose Spencer, Jerry Mathenia, Linda Birmingham, & Joyce (Chad) Plenske; & many nieces & nephews also survive. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by eight siblings - Darlene Allen, Lucinda "Cindy" False, Waldo Mathenia, Daniel Mathenia, Tina Westbrook, James Mathenia, Mary Duke, & Sherry Brickner.
Friends may call from 2 to 5 PM on Monday, February 5, 2024 at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton. Funeral services will be held at 5 PM on Monday, February 5, 2024 at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton, with Randy Braman officiating. The Staunton Military Honor Guard will conduct military rites immediately following the service. Burial will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery in Staunton, IL.
