Margaret Ann Harmon, 92, of Hillsboro, IL - formerly of Litchfield, IL, passed away on Friday, May 15, 2026 at Montgomery County Nursing & Rehab Center in Hillsboro, IL. She was born February 6, 1934 in Litchfield, IL, one of eight children born to Martin L. & Reba (Kahle) Kalaher. She was of the Catholic faith & a very devout active member of Holy Family Parish & was a Springfield Dioceses Woman of Distinction in 2021.
On May 6, 1950, she married William Roy "Bill" Harmon & they spent 69 wonderful years together working side by side until he passed in January of 2020, missing their severty-year milestone by four months.
Margaret had a servant's heart & was known as a sweetheart to everyone who knew her, as she would do anything within her power for those in need.
Her two greatest passions in life were nursing & cooking. In 1972, she went back to college & acquired her RN nursing degree. The majority of her nursing career was spent at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield as a Home Health Care Nurse, & she also worked at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, IL. She always loved to cook & was extremely good at it with her own secret recipes. In 1980, she & her husband started Harmon's Country Catering, providing food (they were known for their fried chicken), beverages, wedding cakes, & decorations, serving the local area & beyond. In 2000 they retired, sold their business, & moved to Hillsboro to be closer to their son, John.
Margaret always considered herself blessed with a large family, telling everyone that she had 10 grandchildren & 16 great grandchildren. She loved them all & was affectionately referred to by all her grands, as Grandma Maggie, each one believing that they were her favorite. Her children are - John (Sally) Harmon, Robert (Beth) Harmon, & Dr. Janice (Charles) Harmon Saucier; & her grandchildren - Craig (Amber) Harmon, Carlee, Mckenna, Henry, Kerby (Brianne) Harmon, Reed, Ruby, Ripp, Tessa (Spencer) Pulliam, Jameson, Graham, Kyle Harmon, Josh (Amanda) Gorsage, Abigail, Elijah, Canaan, Gabe, Rocco, Silas, Israel, Indi, Holly (Randy) Leetham, Meghan (Greg) Harmon Bishop.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband - Bill Harmon; parents - Martin Sr. & Reba Kalaher; brothers - Martin (Marie) Kalaher Jr., & Gerald (Carol) Kalaher; sisters - Maribel Birkencamp & Marcella (Kenneth) Crawford; & a granddaughter - Megan Harmon Bishop.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 AM on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Litchfield, IL. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Litchfield, IL, with Father Daniel L. Willenborg officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Litchfield, IL.
