LaVerne Wiesemann Obituary

LaVerne Leona Wiesemann, 95, of Staunton, Illinois, passed away peacefully at Heritage Health in Staunton, Illinois on March 21, 2022.  She was born in Edwardsville, Illinois on July 14, 1926, the second daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Joseph & Dorothy (Dannenberg) Fischer.  She was baptized & confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Edwardsville, IL & was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Worden, Illinois.  She married Ottmar “Casey” Wiesemann on June 6, 1948 at Zion Lutheran Church in Staunton, Illinois & he passed away on September 17, 1983.

 

She worked at local Nursing Homes in Maryville, IL & Edwardsville, IL.  She also worked as a cook at Trinity Lutheran School in Worden, IL & was a school bus driver & cook for the Worden School District.  She also served as Village Treasurer in Worden, IL & was Caretaker at Williamson Funeral Home in Worden, IL for many years.

 

She loved to dance, play bingo & cards, be the cook for family outings, work in the garden – canning her garden vegetables & making homemade wine.  She was an avid wrestling fan & would never miss a St. Louis Cardinals game or an Illinois Men’s basketball game.  

 

She is survived by her four children -  Shirley (Stan) Hollaway,  Kenneth (Chris) Wiesemann,  Linda Painter,  & Danny (Karen) Wiesemann;  11 grandchildren;  20 great grandchildren; & 4 great great grandchildren;  2 sisters -  Adelia Hosto & Clara (Art) Thimsen;  & numerous nieces & nephews.  Besides her husband & parents, she was preceded in death by -  2 brothers – Florian & Lloyd Fischer; a sister -  Viola Fey-Vesper;  a daughter-in-law – Diana Wiesemann;  & a son-in-law – Darrell Painter.

 

Friends may call from 10 AM to 12 noon on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton.  Family & friends should show support for her teams by dressing casual in Cardinals or Illinois attire.  Funeral services will begin at 12 noon with LaVerne’s great granddaughters Devin Painter & Emily Taylor officiating.  Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto, Illinois.  

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted for the Heritage Health Activity Fund at the funeral home or can be mailed directly to Heritage Health, 215 W. Pennsylvania Street, Staunton, Illinois  62088.  Please annotate “Staunton – Activity Fund” on the memo line of your check.
