Kay Wedel Obituary

Kay Albert Wedel, 83, of Worden, IL, passed away at 11:21 AM on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at Gillespie Health & Rehab Center in Gillespie, IL.  He was born January 7, 1941 in Worden, IL, the son of the late George & Elenora (Behme) Wedel.  He became a Child of God & a member of the Body of Christ through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism on January 19, 1941 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Worden.  Then, in the year 1955, on the 3rd of April, he affirmed his baptismal faith in the Rite of Confirmation at Trinity Lutheran Church in Worden, IL.  He graduated from Worden High School in 1959.

Kay began his career as a meat cutter at Behme's Grocery Store in Worden, IL, later becoming head meat cutter at A & P in Bethalto, IL.  Later he also worked in Jacksonville & Belleville, IL.  Kay served in the U.S. Army, was a member of the Worden Volunteer Fire Department, & was a diehard St. Louis Cardinals Football fan.

While at the Gillespie Health & Rehab Center, the Lord called Kay to himself to enjoy the heavenly life on Wednesday, October 9, 2024.

Surviving Kay are three brothers -  Paul (Marilyn) Wedel of Blaine, MN,  David (Lori) Wedel of Dawson, IL,  &  Michael (Debbie) Wedel of Worden, IL;  one sister -  Diana Sauerwein of Worden, IL;  nieces & nephews -  Cindy (Bryan) Steinmeyer,  Trey (Claudia) Wedel,  Kristi Wedel,  Joshua (Chrissy) Wedel,  Justin Wedel,  Stephanie (Greg) Wedel Gray,  Matt (Mandy) Wedel,  &  Jordan (Shelby) Wedel;  great nieces & great nephews -  Shelby Steinmeyer,  Zachary Wedel,  Brendan Steinmeyer,  Anna Wedel,  Zoey Wedel,  Kate Wedel,  Levi Wedel,  Landyn Wedel,  Linkyn Wedel,  &  Liberty Wedel.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law -  David Sauerwein.

Private graveside services will be held at a later date.
