Joseph A. Schuette, 60 of New Douglas, Illinois passed away Saturday, August 7, 2021, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in St. Charles, MO. Born November 19, 1960, in Staunton, Illinois, he was a son of the Late Mr. & Mrs. Herman Schuette. He married Leslie Flinn on November 30, 1979, and she survives. Joe worked for SIU-Edwardsville for over 30 years. He began as a dishwasher and was promoted over the years to Administrator III Dining Services. Joe was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Staunton.
As a boy, Joe’s father taught him how to play the ukulele and in no time at all Joe taught himself to play the guitar and the drums. He played in and founded several bands, the most recent being “Crystal Clear.” Joe often played at family events and local bars- he loved music, particularly rock music, and everyone surely enjoyed listening! But Joe especially loved his family and family gatherings. He was often the PA at reunions and family events. He and Leslie created wonderful family memories over the years with many parties at their home and an album of old family photos on CD he painstakingly assembled. Joe will be deeply missed for his ready smile, friendliness, and sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife, Leslie Schuette of New Douglas, IL, 2 sons, Matthew (Jennifer) Schuette of Festus, MO, and Michael (Myisha) Schuette of Peru, IL, 5 grandchildren, Rylan Schuette, Kristina Schuette, Aubri Bahr, Mackenzie Schuette, & Madison Schuette, 2 brothers, David (Kathy) Schuette & Daniel (Sandra) Schuette, 3 sisters, Jane Blotevogel, Joy (James) Furey, Gay (Barry) Anschutz, sister-in-law, Laura (Flinn) Baechtel. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 PM on Thursday at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton. Funeral services will be held Friday August 13, 2021, at 10:00 AM at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton with Pastor Mark Self officiating. Burial will be held at Spangle Cemetery near Livingston.
