John D. Meckles

John D. Meckles, 84, of Staunton, IL died Saturday, October 10, 2020 at Heritage Health in Staunton, IL. Born December 27, 1935 in Litchfield, IL, he was a son of the Late Mr. & Mrs. John C. & Jennie D. (Berry) Meckles. He married Lois E. Nepute on August 22, 1959 in Benld, IL and she died on December 20, 2001. He worked as an In-House Service representative for the Internal Revenue Service for 18 years, retiring in 2001. He was also co-owner of the “66” Terminal near Staunton for 35 years. John served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps for 4 years. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church of Staunton, IL, BPOE Elks Club of Litchfield, IL, Staunton Country Club, Founding Board Member of First Community State Bank of Staunton (now Bank of Springfield).

He is survived by 1 son, Jay (Lora) Meckles of Four Seasons, MO, 1 daughter, Maria (Mark) Langston of Maplewood, MO, 5 grandchildren, Jennifer Meckles Higgens (husband Nathan) of Denver, CO, Johnny Meckles of Columbia, MO, Connor Vanallman of New York City, NY, Michael Langston of Maplewood, MO, and Matthew Langston of Maplewood, MO.

Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by 1 son, Roman A. Meckles.

A “Celebration of Life” will be held later.
