Jim Stemmler, age 78, of New Douglas, IL, born in St. Louis, MO, passed away peacefully surrounded by family as the sun rose over his farm, on Saturday, May 31, 2025.
Jim was a strong presence who will be missed dearly. In recent years, his strengths did not always lie in the physical but remained in his ability to lead his loving family. He had a tenacity for creating long-lasting friendships. Anyone he met gladly sat a while to hear one of his many stories, & he could tell one heck of a story! Jim had a knack for bringing people together; whether throwing a party, planning a fishing trip, or selling you a Christmas tree at his farm.
To those that witnessed a "Jimmy smile", consider yourself lucky; his grin will live with you forever. It truly was THAT special.
Jim was a graduate of Roosevelt High School & the University of Missouri-Rolla (1969). He worked as a Chemical Engineer with Monsanto & then retired from Mallinckrodt after 30+ years.
Jim & Mary "Lynn" Weber were married July 26, 1980. They enjoyed more than 45 years together, creating a beautiful family. He is survived by his wife & his two daughters - Laura (Andrew) Meyer & Kathleen Stemmler; two grandchildren - Lucy (10) & Michael James (8) Meyer; his sister - Linda Galkowski; & Goddaughter - Nikki Marsh. He was a dear uncle & friend to many.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents - Ambrose & Verna (nee Wilson) Stemmler; & his brother-in-law - Michael Galkowski.
A celebration of his life will be held this fall at the farm he loved. Memorials may be made to an organization of your choosing in his honor.
As Jim would say, "Enjoy today! h/d/b/u/gp"
