James Floyd Baker, 78, of Staunton, IL, passed away at 2:47 PM on Thursday, March 12, 2026 at Staunton Health & Rehab Center in Staunton, IL. He was born November 30, 1947 in St. Louis, MO, the son of the late James Bernell & Jean (Thompson) Baker. He married Sandra Wood on November 1, 1969 in Danville, VA & she survives.
James was employed as a pipefitter at Granite City Works in Granite City, IL for over 40 years, & was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. He coached his kids' City League teams, enjoyed hunting & fishing, was a great carpenter, & was always working on a project at home.
He is survived by his wife - Sandra Baker of Staunton, IL; two sons - Timothy (Megan) Baker of Staunton, IL, & Shane Baker of Staunton, IL; two grandchildren - Skylar Baker & Samantha Stoyanoff; & a sister - Phyllis Lambird of Collinsville, IL.
A "Celebration of Life" will be held at a later date.
