Gerald L. Meyer

Gerald L. Meyer, 64, of Staunton, IL - formerly of Worden, IL, passed away at 9:02 AM on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at home.  He was born March 25, 1962 in Alton, IL, the son of the late Eugene Victor & Ruth A. (Long) Meyer.  He flew to Las Vegas, NV & married Barbara A. Hormann on August 24, 1986 & she survives.

Gerald graduated from Edwardsville High School with the Class of 1980.  He retired from Quality Sand after over 30 years as an Operating Engineer with Local #520.  For the last 10 years, Gerald has kept his hands busy helping at Bono Implements.  He was a man of simple joys & deep loyalty, someone who truly embraced life & the people in it.  He never missed an episode of Jeopardy!, always quick with an answer, & could often be found with a book in his hand.  Gerald was proud to be a Prairietown Meyer boy, carrying his name with quiet strength & a sense of identity.  A "country boy" at heart, Gerald rocked the Duck Dynasty beard long before it was cool.  He felt more like himself in a pair of overalls, listening to KSHE 95, surrounded by the familiar comforts he loved.  He cherished his close-knit group of lifelong friends, sharing countless memories filled with laughter, cards, & a cold beer.  Known for his sharp mind & adventurous spirit, he even spent time skydiving for the thrill.  Gerald took great pride in being a Grandpa, always ready to laugh, play, & create chaos.  Above all, he was devoted to his family -  especially his beloved wife, whom he cared for selflessly in the final months of his life after her stroke, a reflection of the deep love & commitment that defined him.

He is survived by the love of his life -  Barbara Meyer of Staunton, IL;  his children -  Jessica (Brandon) Johnson of Staunton, IL,  Amanda Meyer (fiance' Kris Meierotto) of Staunton, IL,  &  Benjamin Meyer (girlfriend Lauren Semanisin) of Worden, IL;  his grandchildren -  Ganon Johnson,  Aurora Calcari,  &  Swayzee Johnson;  two brothers -  Paul M. (Pam) Meyer of Godfrey, IL,  &  Robert A. (Eileen) Meyer of Staunton, IL;  & numerous nieces, nephews, & cousins also survive.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers -  David L. Meyer,  James S. Meyer,  John J. Meyer,  Mark E. Meyer,  &  Philip R. Meyer.

Visitation will be held from 12 noon to 2 PM on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton, IL.  No funeral or graveside services will be held.
