Eugene Spudich Obituary

Eugene J. "Cheesy" Spudich, 83, of Livingston, IL, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at Staunton Health & Rehab Center in Staunton, IL.  He was born October 25, 1941 in Livingston, IL, the son of the late Roger & Anna (Golman) Spudich.

He graduated from Livingston High School in 1962.  After graduation he worked briefly on construction, then at an Indiana steel mill for a short while & then enlisted in the United States Air Force.  After finishing his service duty, he was employed at the Shell Refinery in Wood River/Roxana, IL in the testing lab unit where he received recognition for precise testing of various Shell products.  He married late in life after taking care of his mother, who had suffered a stroke, for a number of years.  He married Marty Baker on April 12, 2001, & she survives.

Before suffering a stroke in 2017, he enjoyed going to the racetrack, being with his dog, loved listening to Rock & Roll music, & loved socializing, having never met a stranger, & making people happy.  He was generous beyond measure with not only his family, but numerous other people.  He was very patriotic & served as the liaison in putting flags on Veterans graves on Memorial Day at the Livingston & Spangle cemeteries.  He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Livingston, IL.

Besides his wife Marty, he is survived by a brother -  Raymond "Joe" Spudich of Staunton, IL;  three sisters -  Catherine Wright of Staunton, IL,  Cecelia (Joe) Lockhart of Denver, Colorado,  &  Laura (Richard) Worms of Kansas City, MO;  nieces -  Tiffany Spudich of Staunton, IL,  Adrienne (Andy) Johnson of Maryville, IL,  Carrie (Bruce) Hanley of Washington,  Natasha (Tommy) Giovanoli of Ohio,  &  Melissa (Jeff) Harbour of Colorado;  nephews -  Nathan (Nancy) Spudich of Maryville, IL  &  Michael Worms of Kansas City, MO;  & other great nieces, great nephews, & cousins also survive.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters Margaret & Frances,  & brothers Paul & Arthur.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 AM on Thursday, July 10, 2025 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Livingston, IL.  A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, July 10, 2025 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Livingston, IL, with Rev. Thomas Hagstrom officiating.
