Emmett C. Meador, 80. of Hamel, IL, passed away at 4:11 PM on Sunday, March 10, 2024 at his residence in Hamel, IL. He was born April 16, 1943 in Hot Coal, West Virginia, the son of the late Oscar & Margaret (Perdue) Meador. He married Belinda L. Niehaus on May 31, 1986 in Carpenter, IL & she survives.
Emmett was an Ironworker & EAP Coordinator at Granite City Steel in Granite City, IL for 40 years, retiring in 2004. He graduated from Pineville, West Virginia High School in 1960, then served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hamel, IL, & a member of the Staunton American Legion Post #362. He loved fishing, wood-working, & the St. Louis Cardinals.
He is survived by his wife - Belinda L. Meador of Hamel, IL; two daughters - Vicki (Larry) Hurley of Fults, IL, & Amy (Courtney) Shands of Kirkwood, MO; two sons - Jeff (Kristin) Meador of Albuquerque, NM, & Zachary Meador of Edwardsville, IL; eight grandchildren - Ashley (James) Beckring, Katie Meador, Toni Osborn, Emily Shands, Samantha Shands, Madeline Shands, Courtney Shands, & Kyle Lemke; four great grandchildren - Julian Moran, Kyleigh Moran, Lia Meador, & Ali Meador; & one brother - Tom Meador. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son - John Meador; one daughter - Beth Osborn; & one sister - Frances Weible.
Friends may call from 9 to 11 AM on Friday, March 15, 2024 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hamel, IL. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Friday, March 15, 2024 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hamel, IL, with Rev. Benjamin Ball officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2 PM on Friday, March 15, 2024 at Wares Grove Cemetery in Butler, IL. The Staunton Military Honor Guard will conduct military rites.
