Emil L. Zimmerman Sr., age 86, of Staunton, IL, passed away peacefully with his son & daughter by his side on August 7th, 2024. Emil was born in St. Vincent, Arkansas, on January 18, 1938, the son of the late Paul & Christine (Pfeifer) Zimmerman.
He married Angeline "Angie" Mary Konecnik on February 20, 1960 in St. Louis, MO, & they lived together for 49 beautiful years until her passing on June 3, 2009.
Emil served his country in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959. After that, he worked as a contractor with his older brother Paul for many years, passing down his knowledge & expertise to his son-in-law (Buddy), working many projects together as family. Emil loved spending time with his family. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, & meeting nights in his barn with friends.
He was a loving father who is survived by his two children - Emil Zimmerman Jr. & Christine (Louis) Foster, both of Staunton, IL; his four grandchildren - David (Sarah) Zimmerman of Grafton, IL, Rachel Zimmerman of St. Louis, MO, Andrew (Claudia) Foster of Gulf Breeze, FL, & Ashley (Bradley) Seketa of Staunton, IL; seven great grandchildren; two brothers - Paul (Betty) Zimmerman of Staunton, IL, & Ron (Sherrel) Zimmerman of Cape Girardeau, MO; two sisters - Tina (Jim) Brubaker of Pueblo West, CO, & Lucy Bell of Collinsville, IL. Many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces & nephews also survive. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife - Angie Zimmerman; one daughter - Jackie Zimmerman; & one sister - Albertine Beard.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, August 19, 2024 at 11 AM at St. Michael Catholic Church in Staunton, IL, with the Very Rev. Thomas Hagstrom officiating. Following Mass, burial will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery (St. Michael Catholic Section) in Staunton, IL. The Staunton Military Honor Guard will conduct graveside military rites.
