We are sad to announce that on December 23, 2020 we had to say goodbye to Eileen Jennie Rhodes of Staunton, Illinois, who passed away at Heritage Health in Staunton at the age of 93 years from advanced Parkinsons’ Disease & COVID-19.
She was loved & cherished by many people including her pre-deceased husband William Walter Rhodes, her children - Beverly Jennie (Robert) Hofmann, the late William Walter Rhodes Jr., the late James Dennis Rhodes, Billy Eugene (Barbara) Rhodes, Marsha (Butch) Fones, & Randy Rhodes; her grandchildren – Lyndsie Hofmann, Dennis Rhodes, Shawn Rhodes, Jeremiah Rhodes, Josh Rhodes, Elisabeth Woodbury, Joey Rhodes, Jennifer Petty, Timothy Bono, Michael Bono, & Michelle Rhodes, Danielle Ziegler, Whitney Ziegler, Tyler Schneck; 22 great grandchildren; & 2 great great grandchildren. Besides her husband, parents, & two sons, she was preceded in death by a sister – Grace Brackman; a half-sister – Ruth Kahl; a half-brother – James Stiller; & a great grandson – Nicholas.
Eileen was born on August 29, 1927 to Eugene & Dolly Hebenstreit. She taught school at the upper Springdale One-Room Schoolhouse in Dorchester Township. She quit teaching school to become a homemaker & raise a family. She was a lifetime member of the Staunton VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
There will be no public services due to current COVID-19 pandemic. Memorials are suggested to either the First Assembly of God Church in Staunton or to Tine Sawyer Cemetery, where Eileen will be laid to rest.
