Dorothy J. (Shanks) Smith

Dorothy J. Smith, 86, of Staunton, Illinois, passed away at 1:41 AM on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at her residence in Staunton, Illinois.  She was born December 16, 1936 in Mortons Gap, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Delmas E. & Clara Grace (Cotton) Shanks.  She was married to Carl V. "Buss" Smith on October 9, 1953 in East St. Louis, Illinois & he passed away on June 10, 2006.

Dorothy was a homemaker who loved being with her family & going camping.  In her younger years, she loved to work alongside her husband Carl in the church helping in Children's Church or decorating the church for events or dinners.  She loved doing crafts & making flower arrangements.

She is survived by two sons -  Kenneth (Dena) Smith of Sorento, IL & David (Brenda) Smith of Staunton, IL;  two granddaughters -  Rebecca Smith of Staunton, IL & Cari (Lance) Banchi of Sorento, IL;  two grandsons -  Michael (Hannah) Smith of Staunton, IL & Cory (Tiffany) Smith of Sorento, IL;  two great grandchildren -  Cody & Delaney Smith, & future great grandson -  Waylon Smith;  one sister -  Faye (Marvin) Rickey of Livingston, IL;  three nieces -  Lisa (Gary) Langley,  Donna (Mike) Kehoe,  & Nancy (Bill) Novakoski;  several great nieces & great nephews also survive.  She was preceded in death by her husband & parents.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 PM on Sunday, July 23, 2023 at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton.  Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 24, 2023 at 11 AM at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton, with Rev. Jeff Martin officiating.  Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Staunton, Illinois.
