Dewey D. "Joe" Hartman, 87, of rural Staunton, IL, passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2023 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. He was born January 16, 1936 in Worden, Illinois, the son of the late Dewey William & Lucy (Vesper) Hartman. He was married to Sharon Thayer on February 2, 1957 in Belvedere, Illinois & she survives.
Joe was a Construction Laborer at Georgewitz Construction (out of Local #338 in Wood River, IL) for over thirty years, & was also a part time farmer. He faithfully attended the Community Christian Church in Alton, IL, & loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, & a father to 27 foster kids. He also loved fishing & football.
He is survived by his wife - Sharon Hartman of Staunton, IL; five children - Donna Jo (Buddy) Daniel of Crane Hill, Alabama, Danny William Hartman of Cleveland, TN, Dori (Kenny) Rhodes of Staunton, IL, Lee (Terry) Hancock of Litchfield, IL, & Bagi (Mina) Byambajov of Mongolia; eleven grandchildren - Autumn Munds (Conner), Brooke Wacker, Lucas Munds (Renee), Kyle Jon Hartman (Mara), Graham Christopher Hartman, Ben (Esther) Rhodes, Phil (Nicole) Rhodes, Jake (Mia) Rhodes, Josh (Brandi) Rabida, Cassie (Shawn) Royer, Joe Byambajov; seventeen great grandchildren. Blake, Colin, Madi, Graycen, Clayton, Emma, Caleb, Joana, Cora, Theo, Lucy, Cece, Cam, Evie, Alivia, Jensen, Jaxson, & Brylin; one sister - Judy (Roy) Goodson of Orland Park, IL; & numerous nieces, nephews, & cousins also survive. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers - Kenny (Sandy) Hartman & Bob (Bonnie) Hartman; & a daughter-in-law - Delisa Hartman.
Friends may call from 11 AM to 1 PM on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton, IL. Funeral services will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton, IL, with Rev. David Burger officiating. Memorials are suggested to either Community Christian Church of Alton, IL, or to Youth With A Mission (YWAM).
