Delmo Maroso died on June 3, 2024 at Community Hospital of Staunton, IL. Born in Carlinville, IL on February 24, 1930, he was the son of Giovanni & Mary (Abelloni) Maroso, who had immigrated from Italy in the early 1900's.
He was educated in Carlinville schools & after graduation in 1947, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. When his enlistment was completed he continued his education at Blackburn College in Carlinville, & was a member of the graduating class of 1957 from Washington University Dental School in St. Louis, MO. After a short private practice he re-enlisted as a Captain in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1963, serving in the U.S. & Korea. Upon completion of his military service, he practiced dentistry at the Labor Health Institute in St. Louis, MO for 10 years. In 1975 he joined the faculty of Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine in Alton, Illinois. He was named Professor Emeritus after retiring in 1997.
He married Marilyn Simberger in 1956. They were married for over 62 years until her death in 2019. He participated in many outdoor sports & activities & was a Gold Wing parachutist with over 1400 freefalls.
Preceding him in death were his parents, sister Albina, & wife Marilyn. He is survived by his three children - John, Ann, & Amy.
A private family service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Staunton Public Library.
