David Paul (Butch) Struebig, 71, of Mt. Olive, IL (formerly of Staunton, IL) passed away on August 31st, 2019. Born February 12th, 1948 in Chicago, IL, he was the son of the late Fred and Jeanne (Babinec) Struebig. David grew up in South Milwaukee, WI and graduated from South Milwaukee High School.
David served in the United States Air Force from 1967 to 1971 attaining the rank of Sergeant. Following his time in The Air Force, David moved to Staunton, IL and worked as an Operating Engineer for the Olin Corporation for nearly 40 years until his retirement. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, golfing, spending time with family and friends, and was always quick with a joke for nearly any occasion. David was a life member of VFW Post 1241 in Staunton, IL.
David is survived by two children, Kristina May of Staunton, IL and Stephen (Teresa) Struebig of Logan, UT; girlfriend Charlotte Walker of Mt Olive; sisters Donna Van de Hey and Linda Bryan of Staunton; brother Lee Struebig of Staunton; grandsons Zachary May and Stephen (Kayla) May; great grandchildren Blaykelynne May and Xander May; numerous nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Jeanne Struebig, brother-in-law Kenneth Van de Hey, and brother-in-law Mike Bryan.
The family will plan a Celebration of Life and internment of cremains at a later date. Memorials are suggested to VFW Post 1241 in Staunton, IL or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
