Charles "Ed" Steele

Charles "Ed" Steele, 88, of Worden, Illinois, passed away at 7:13 AM on Friday, November 24, 2023 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Illinois.  He was born October 28, 1935 in Ripley County, Missouri, the son of the late Thomas R. & Mary (Sullivan) Steele.  He was married to Anna Gulley on August 6, 1962 in East St. Louis, Illinois & she passed away on November 10, 2001.

He was employed as a Telecommunications Operator at Madison Telco in Staunton, Illinois for several years, & also served his country in the U.S. Navy.

"Ed" is survived by one daughter -  Lora (David) Connor of Worden, IL;  one son -  Eddie (Theresa) Steele of Collinsville, IL;  four grandchildren -  Rebecca (Zach) Gilbert of Carbondale, IL,  Chadwick Connor of Worden, IL,  Blake Steele of Glen Carbon, IL,  & Wade Steele of Panama City Beach, FL;  one great grandson -  Henry Gilbert of Carbondale, IL;  one sister -  Mary Sue Payne of Doniphan, MO;  numerous nieces, nephews, & cousins also survive.  Besides his wife & parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers -  Carleton "Junior" Steele & Ronnie Steele;  & two sisters -  Bonnie Allen & Marjorie Engelken.

Graveside services will be private at Worden City Cemetery in Worden, Illinois.  Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.
