Bruce Gates Obituary

Bruce Carter Gates, 71, of Staunton, IL, passed away on February 27, 2025 at Mercy Hospital South in St. Louis, MO.  He was born September 2, 1953 in Leesburg, FL, the son of the late James Clyde & Barbara Ann (Woolf) Gates.

Bruce retired from the IT Department for the Lewis & Clark Library System.  He was a 1972 graduate of Roxana High School, as well as Lewis & Clark Community College.  A Vietnam era veteran, he proudly served in Attack Squadron 46, aboard the supercarrier USS John F. Kennedy throughout the mid 1970's.  He served with honor & was very proud of the experiences gained.  He was known for his deep knowledge of history, as well as his compassion for animals.

He is survived by his children -  James Larkin Gates  &  Mariah (Chris) Eggert;  close family friend -  Chris Vesper;  his grandchildren -  Josie, Nathiel, Katelyn, Aden, & Evan;  sisters -  Charla (Joe) Thomas  &  Ashley (Gary) Hahs;  nieces & nephews -  Amber, Rachel, Gage, & Layton.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved partner -  Donna Vesper;  &  his grandson -  Daveion Gates.
