Barbara Jean (Gann) Schmidt

Barbara Jean Schmidt, 89, of Staunton, IL, passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2024.

She was born July 19, 1935 in Erin, TN & married Noah E. Schmidt in 1951.  They had six children:  Lynn, Jeff, Dan, Kim, Tim, & Desiree.  They moved to Staunton, IL in 1968.

She was preceded in death by her husband Noah in 1993, her son Lynn in 2016, her son Dan in 2021, her son-in-law Gene Bartulis in 2009, her son-in-law David Goodwin in 2011, her daughter-in-law Carol Schmidt in 2011, & her grandson Matt Schmidt in 2018.

She had several different jobs over the years & loved to paint.  She was a very good artist & could paint about anything that she could get her brush on.  There are many paintings of wildlife & old home settings in the area that she did for several people.  She was always laughing & telling stories to all the grandchildren & anyone else that would listen.  She loved to banter with her minister......which brought on a lot of laughter & some good times.

She is survived by a brother -  Douglas (Norma Jean) Gann of Clarksville, TN;  four children -  Jeff (Toby) Schmidt of Staunton, IL,  Kim Bartulis of Staunton, IL,  Tim (Sue) Schmidt of Fairbanks, Alaska,  &  Desiree Goodwin of Staunton, IL;  daughter-in-law -  Debra (late Lynn) Schmidt of Staunton, IL;  nineteen grandchildren,  twenty-four great grandchildren,  &  ten great great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at the Williamson Funeral Home, located at 108 W. Henry St. in Staunton, IL, from 6 to 9 PM on Wednesday, August 14, 2024.  Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, August 15, 2024 at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton, IL, with Pastor John Foster officiating.  Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Staunton, IL.
