Arthur H. Yarnik Jr., 89, of Staunton, Illinois, passed away at 3:48 AM on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Illinois. He was born November 25, 1933 in Staunton, IL, the son of the late Arthur & Margaret (Cailotto) Yarnik Sr. He married Norma J. Pervinsek on June 2, 1956 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Staunton, IL & she passed away on January 12, 2017.
Art attended SIU-Carbondale before he was drafted into the U.S. Navy during the Korean War era. After his discharge, he began his Postal career in Chicago, IL - soon transferred to St. Louis, MO, then came back home to Staunton, IL & retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1995 after 42 years. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Staunton & coached St. Michael's School Basketball team for many years. Art also coached Little League baseball, was a diehard sports fan, & loved Cardinals baseball. He also loved to grill, going out to eat, & spending time with family.
He is survived by five children - Greg (Heidi) Yarnik of Palatine, IL, Val (Mark) Buffington of Staunton, IL, Tim (Yolanda) Yarnik of Springfield, IL, Phil (Shanna) Yarnik of Frisco, TX, & Doug (Wendy) Yarnik of New Douglas, IL; eight grandchildren - Paige Buffington (Dino Tsoulis), Brooke Buffington (fiance' Cody Brush), Eric (Connor) Yarnik, Scott Yarnik, Morgan (Bryan) Knodel, Rachel (Brayden) Geiger, Alexandria Yarnik, & Ashleigh Yarnik; one brother - Dennis (Gayle) Yarnik; several nieces & nephews also survive. Besides his wife & parents, Art was preceded in death by two brothers - Ron Yarnik & Jerry Yarnik.
Friends may call from 9 to 11 AM on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Staunton, IL. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Staunton, IL. A Celebration of Art's life will take place following his Memorial Mass at the Staunton VFW Hall. Please come visit with family & friends & share an "Art story" on what would have been his 90th birthday!
