Vickie L. Shrum, 65, of Staunton, Illinois, passed away at 3:30 PM on Friday, December 7, 2018 in her home with her family & loved ones by her side after 17 years in a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Alton, Illinois on January 21, 1953 to Robert & Norma (Underwood) Kuehnel of Bethalto, Illinois. In 1978 she married the love of her life, William “Bill” Shrum. They spent 40 years of marriage together & he survives.
In her earlier years she worked many jobs before deciding her most important job was to raise her sons & be the best homemaker she could be. She enjoyed cake decorating, painting, & quilting.
Surviving are her husband Bill of Staunton, 2 sons – Don Houston of Staunton & James Shrum of Staunton; 1 stepdaughter – Heather Shrum of Springfield, MO; 2 grandsons – Lachlan Shrum of Staunton & Jordan Backler of Springfield, MO; 1 granddaughter – Abby Backler of Springfield, MO; one sister – Yvonne (Steve) Dewall of Bethalto, IL; 2 brothers – Steve (Esther) Kuehnel of Tacoma, WA & Mark (Pam) Kuehnel of Cottage Hills, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Friends may call from 11 AM to 12 noon on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton. Funeral services at 12 noon on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton with Rev. Bob Hill officiating. Burial will be in Spangle Cemetery – near Livingston, Illinois. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
