Rudolph “Rudy” Robert Slemer Jr., 72, of Worden, Illinois, passed away at 4:40 AM on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Heritage Health in Staunton, Illinois. He was born on October 13, 1944 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of the late Rudolph Sr. & Catherine (Beczkala) Slemer. He married Ruth Ann Johnson on May 28, 1977 in Staunton, IL & she survives.

Rudy graduated from Edwardsville High School in 1962 & was the captain of the Edwardsville Tigers football team. He graduated from Ranken Technical Institute in St. Louis, Missouri as a Draftsman & later received a certificate in CAD Drafting from Lewis & Clark Community College in Godfrey, Illinois.

Rudy enjoyed being outdoors & was an avid hobby farmer. He was a member of the Illini Racing Pigeon Club from Shipman, Illinois & Carpenters Local #664 of Wood River, Illinois. He was employed as a Highway Technician for Madison County & retired in 2009. Rudy was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Staunton, & Staunton Knights of Columbus #2197. He always looked forward to the Octoberfest & enjoyed working in the bratwurst stand.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann Slemer, of Worden, Illinois; 5 children – Kelly, Robbie, Scott, Becky, & John; 5 grandchildren – Meghan, Lynnette, Sophia, Shawn, & Spencer; 4 brothers – Robert “Robbie” & wife Cindy, Ron & wife Debbie, Stan & wife Debbie, & Steve; & 1 sister – Mary Ann Moad. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, great nieces, & great nephews, & his beloved dog, “Pepper”. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Cremation rites have been accorded by Williamson Funeral Home of Staunton, Illinois. A Memorial Service is being planned for a later date. Memorials are suggested to the family in care of his wife, Ruth Ann.
