Marcella Day Obituary

Marcella (Marcie) M. Day, 88, of Springfield, IL, passed away in Appleton, WI, on April 12th, 2018,  while in the loving care of her family in home hospice.
Marcella was born on December 14th, 1929, in Staunton, IL, to parents Adolph Edward and Verna Cordelia (Foss) Anschutz.    She married Eugene (Gene) L. Grman on January 10th, 1947, and lived in Staunton, IL, Bloomington, IL, Esterville, IA and St. Louis, MO, before settling in Springfield, IL, in 1961.  They had four children, Michael, Kenneth, Laura and Gina.  They were divorced in 1972.
Marcella married William (Bill)  E. Day, Sr. on August 27th, 1977.   Marcella was employed by Sears, working in the catalog department, followed by the Bunn Corporation, working as the personal secretary to George Bunn, and lastly by CILCO (Ameren), as an administrative assistant, where she remained employed until her retirement in 1992.   Marcella and Bill relocated to Park Rapids, MN, soon after retiring, and spent their winters in Scottsdale, AZ.  They returned to Springfield, IL in 2008.
Marcella is preceded in death by her husband, William E. Day, Sr., parents Edward and Verna Anschutz, siblings Loretta, (Dolly) Anschutz, Leland Anschutz, Norma Luther and Velma (Jim) Kimball, son, Kenneth D. Grman, stepchildren Michael Day and Natalie Chavez, niece, Melanie Forbes and nephew, Gary Luther.
Marcella is survived by one brother, Dean (Carol) Anschutz, three children, Michael (Janet) Grman, Laura Grman, Gina (Dan Borree) Grman, daughter-in-laws, Deborah Grman and Inga Grman, six grandchildren, Emily (Chris), Neil, Mark, Matthew, Halle and Jacob, three great grandchildren, Brody, Mason and Jonah, four step children, William Day Jr., Shawn Day, Lisa Sulcer and Michelle Boner, step grandchildren, Tyler, Jillian, Tyssen, Ryan, Heather, Jason, Jerrod, Mylee and Aaliyah, step great grandchildren, C.J., Maxwell, Izick, Jonathan, Carter, Ava, nieces, Jeannie, Rita (Jim), Renee (Bruce), Jan (Tim), Cheri and Allison, nephews, Todd (Donna), Barry (Gay), Lyle, Brian (Deb), Edward, Henry, Andrew and Eddie, and dear friends, Josephine, Donna and Herb, Audrey, Nelson and Elaine, and Pat and Howard.
Marcella loved to sew, to get her hair done, to wear high heeled shoes, to play SkipBo, to go to the casino, to care for her girl puppy, Whoopi, to eat Bill’s great home cooking, his homemade pies and Poor Boy’s from Gabatoni’s, to listen to Ray Charles and Dusty Springfield, to watch her sitcoms, and most of all, to spend time with her family and friends.  She could type like the wind, and never gave up her typewriter.  After being a lifelong nail-biter, she delighted in showing off her long beautiful fingernails that she finally grew out at the age of 80.  She loved to dance, and she enjoyed sharing her stories of being a teenager, when she and her sister, Velma, and friend, Josephine, would take the trolley from Staunton to Benld, to go to the Coliseum Ball Room, to dance to the music of the touring big bands that often performed there.
Marcella was the kindest and most generous person we ever knew.  She was mild in nature, strong in spirit, fun loving, hard working, and always worried for the well being of the people she loved.   She will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
A visitation will be held on Friday, May 4th, 2018, from 1:00pm-2:00pm, at Williamson Funeral Home, 108 W.
