John C. “Sheepy” Banjavcic, 93 of Staunton, IL passed away Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Heritage Health in Staunton. Born January 7, 1924 in Staunton, IL he was a son of the late Mr. & Mrs. John and Anna (Goyak) Banjavcic. He married Rose Spudich on September 1, 1951 at Sacred Heart Church in Livingston, IL and she survives. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and worked as a Laborer/ Foreman for Fruin Colnon Construction Company in St. Louis, MO. He was a member of the Staunton VFW Post # 1241; Forest Lake Fishing Club; Staunton Sportsman’s Club; and St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Staunton.

He is survived by his wife, Rose Banjavcic of Staunton, IL; 1 sister-in-law, Mary Spudich of Staunton, IL. Many nieces and nephews also survive. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by 5 sisters, Mary Zarr, Anne Brannan, Caroline Knafl, Helen Weiss, and Josephine Smalling; 2 brothers, Rudy Banjavcic and Emil Banjavcic.

Friends may call from 9:30 – 10:45 AM on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton, with Funeral services following at 10:45 AM with Rev. George Radosevich officiating. Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Livingston, IL. The Staunton Military Honor Guard will conduct graveside military rites. Memorials are suggested to either St. Michael’s Catholic Restoration Fund, Sacred Heart Cemetery, or to Staunton Sportsman’s Club.
