Frederick W. “Fred” Stein Sr, 83 of Staunton, Illinois passed away Friday, November 17, 2017 at his residence in Staunton. Born June 24, 1934 in Staunton, he was a son of the Late Mr. & Mrs. Alvin Stein. He married Betty Hughes on October 18, 1953 in Gillespie, IL and survives. He worked as a planner/scheduler at Granite City Steel in Granite City, Illinois for many years. He was a past Union President for Local # 18- Granite City, IL; past Mayor and Alderman of the City of Staunton.  Fred enjoyed bowling, gardening, playing pinochle, and was a n avid sports fan. Mostly, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Stein; 3 sons, Fred (Pam) Stein Jr., Greg Stein (fiancé Cindy Farmer), Scott (Emma) Stein; 2 daughters, Vicky Sczurek and Lori Stein; 9 grandchildren, Matthew Stein, Ashley (Mitch) Smith, Danielle (Jack) Ulricson, Kayleigh (Matthew) Bessent, Kelsey (Kerry) Dyer, Kory Sczurek, Amanda Stein, Amy Stein, Jennifer Stein; 4 great grandchildren, Zander, Paisley, Grayson, and Owen; 2 brothers, Al (Violet) Stein and Marvin (Kathy) Stein. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 son, Mark Stein.

Friends may call from 9 to 11 AM on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton. Funeral services will follow at 11 AM at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton with burial at Memorial Park Cemetery in Staunton. Memorials are suggested to Staunton Unit Schools Classroom Upgrade Fund or to the Parks of the City of Staunton.
