Bernice (Rummer) Guennewig

Bernice (Rummer) Guennewig, 95 of Staunton passed away Monday, March 25, 2019 at Heritage Health in Staunton. Born May 3, 1923 in Staunton, IL, she was a daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. William & Amelia Rummer. She married Gerald Guennewig on September 29, 1945 and he passed away in September 2006. She worked as the Secretary in the Special Education Department at Staunton Unit Schools in Staunton. Bernice was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, & friend to many.  She loved to quilt, play bingo, go out to eat, & play cards with friends on Sundays. She & Gerry were lifelong Cubs fans……a couple of her prized possessions were Wheaties cereal boxes with photos of Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo & another of Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps. She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Staunton.

She is survived by 4 Children -Denise (Dave) Ondes – Staunton, Illinois; Robert (Leslie) Guennewig – Loami, Illinois; Diana Holway – St. Louis, Missouri; Tom (Vicky) Guennewig – Florida; 10 Grandchildren -Bryan (Heather) Ondes, Nicholas Ondes, Dr. Leigh Ann Kowalski, Doug Guennewig, Paul (Vicky) Holway, Susan (Mike) Maher, Lindsey (Chuck) Smith, Lisa (Friedrich) Klautke, Andrea Guennewig, & Patrick Ryan; 10 Great Grandchildren. Besides her husband & parents, she was preceded in death by – 1 Grandson Mathew Guennewig; 1 Son-In-Law - George Holway; 1 Great Granddaughter -Natalea Ondes; 1 Brother & Several Sisters.

Friends may call from 9 to 11 AM on Thursday at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton. Funeral services will follow at 11 AM at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton with Father George Radosevich officiating. Burial will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery in Staunton. Memorials are suggested to either Community Memorial Hospital of Staunton, St. Michael’s Catholic Church of Staunton, or to the Staunton Education Foundation.
