Doris Payad Obituary

Doris Jean Payad, a long time resident of Staunton, IL, fell asleep in the Lord on Thursday, February 29, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.  She was born May 8, 1929 in Ft. Worth, TX, the daughter of the late Lester Hugh & Anastasia (Koziczkowski) Ogden.  Doris was married to Charles H. Johnson in 1950.  Together, in Staunton, they raised five children -  Linda, Barbara, Dorothy, Elizabeth, & Roger.  Following the death of Charles, Doris married Harold Payad in 1994.  They remained together until his death in 2016.

Doris was a lifelong parishioner at St. Michael Catholic Church in Staunton, IL.  She was a dedicated wife, mother, & homemaker.  Doris's true character was revealed during her long career as a Registered Nurse spanning over 50 years which displayed her compassion & caring for others.  Doris held numerous nursing positions including Director of Nursing, Office Nurse, & Hospital Nurse.  Her other passions included gardening vegetables & canning, tending to her flowers, & growing beautiful Irises.  She also enjoyed fishing, cooking, & baking for local fundraisers (St. Michael's Octoberfest, VFW chicken dinners, Masonic turkey dinners).  Doris took great pride in being a lifetime member of the Staunton VFW Ladies Auxiliary.  Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, & families.

Doris is survived by her three daughters -  Linda Neylon (Paul Damkoehler),  Dorothy (George) Parides,  &  Elizabeth (Daniel) Sherfy.  She was a grandmother of 14;  great grandmother of 13;  &  aunt to several beloved nieces & nephews.  She is also survived by siblings -  Joseph (Suzy) Ogden,  Sylvester Ogden,  &  Mary Campbell.  She was preceded in death by her husbands -  Harold Payad & Charles H. Johnson;  her daughter -  Barbara Morell;  her son -  Roger Johnson;  a sister -  Garnet Kisor;  & a brother -  James Ogden.

Friends may call from 9 to 11 AM on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton, IL.  Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton, with Father Thomas Hagstrom officiating.  Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Staunton, IL.  Memorials are suggested to either St. Michael Catholic Church in Staunton, IL or to Staunton VFW Post #1241.
