Shirley A. Graves, 78 of Staunton, Illinois passed away Friday, December 2, 2016 at her residence in Staunton. Born October 22, 1938 in Deerfield, Kansas, she was a daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. James Mathias. She married Larry Graves on December 23, 1961 in Syracuse, Kansas and he survives. She worked as a School Teacher with Staunton Elementary School District # 6 in Staunton, Illinois. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, swimming with friends, and loved teaching science, hence donating her body to science.

She is survived by her husband, Larry Graves of Staunton, IL; 2 sons, Troy (Lynette) Graves of Staunton, IL and Scott (Joann) Graves of Staunton, IL; 6 grandchildren, Ashleigh (Paul) Hamilton, Kacy (Stewart) Heim, Chelsea Marinacci, Mindy Graves, Missy Graves, and Dustin Graves; 3 great grandchildren, Blayne Pirok, Knox & Merrik Hamilton; and 1 sister, Nadine (Richard) Landon. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by 3 brothers, 2 sisters, and great grandchildren.

No services are scheduled. Her remains were donated to St. Louis University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO. Memorials are suggested to either the Staunton Education Foundation or to the Charity of the Donor’s Choice.
