Robert L. Vojas, 83 of Staunton, IL passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at Community Memorial Hospital in Staunton. Born October 5, 1933 in Staunton, he was the son of the Late Mr. & Mrs. Walter Vojas. He married Mary Seketa on August 24, 1957 and she survives. He graduated from Staunton High School Class of 1951, and after high school Bob enlisted in the U.S. Navy. After serving his country, Bob went on to work at McDonnell Douglas Corporation from 1954-1995. During his career, he worked his way up to Director of Quality Assurance. The projects he worked on included the Tomahawk, Skylab, phantom aircrafts, and the Harpoon and cruise missiles. Bob twice received the Navy’s Salty Dog Award (1988 and 1989). In 1988, Bob received it in recognition of his work representing McDonnell Douglas on a Navy-chartered industry team that was formed to reduce or eliminate industry resistance to a proposed revision to a soldering specification (WS-6536E). In 1989, he received the McDonnell Douglas President’s Award in recognition of his work as the product assurance manager on the Harpoon program. Bob retired from McDonnell Douglas Corporation in 1995.  Bob was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church of Staunton where he was a 1947 graduate St. Michael’s School.  Bob was a member Staunton American Legion Post #362, the Staunton Lion’s Club, where he previously served as President, and he was a former member of the Staunton City Council where he served as the Ward 1 Alderman.  After retiring in 1995, Bob began his second career working at Scott’s Service Center.  A proud Democrat, Bob believed in public service.  In 2002, Bob was first elected to the Macoupin County Board where he proudly served in that position until his death.  Bob was the current Chairman of the Road and Bridges Committee.

He is survived by his Wife and best friend, Mary Vojas; 4 Children, Steve (wife Tracie) Vojas; Mike Vojas; Roberta Vojas; and Renee (husband Matt) Galbraith; 5 Granddaughters, Michelle Jones, Tiffany Vojas (husband Matt) Cramer; Christy (husband Rob) Coleman Stephanie Vojas (fiancé Ryan Taylor), and Kimberley (husband Brian) Roller; 4 Great Grandsons, Dylan, Jackson, Coby, and Braden. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 Sister, Barbara Ann and 1 Niece, Lana Odorizzi.  Bob’s family, especially his wife, was his whole world, and he will be greatly missed by his whole family and all of his friends.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 Pm on Friday at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at St. Michael's Catholic Church at 10 AM with Rev. George Radosevich officiating. Burial will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery in Staunton. Military Graveside services will be conducted by the Staunton Military Honor Guard. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association, the National Kidney Foundation, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, or the American Legion Scholarship Fund.
