Robert Eugene Schwandner, 90, of Livingston, Illinois, formerly of Staunton, Illinois passed away at his daughter’s residence in Livingston on Saturday, March 17, 2018. Born February 19, 1928 in Staunton, Illinois, he was a son of the late Mrs. Marie H. Schwandner. He married Dorothy E. Sminchak on July 8, 1950 in Livingston, Illinois and she passed away on May 7, 2014. He worked as a Trainman with the Pennsylvania Railroad/Conrail from 1956 until his retirement in 1989. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Seaman First Class. Bob was a member of the United Transportation Union and the Staunton VFW Post # 1241.
He is survived by a daughter, Kathy Houston of Livingston, IL; a son, Dan Schwandner of Leesburg, VA; 3 grandchildren, Becky Jo, Michelle Johnson, and Michael Johnson; 3 great grandchildren. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his mother and step-father.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 2, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton with Rev. George Radosevich officiating. Interment of cremains will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Livingston, IL. The Staunton Military Honor Guard will conduct graveside military rites. Memorials are suggested to Adopt-A-Pet of Benld, IL.
