Joan J. Kapp, 83, of Staunton, Illinois, passed away at 3 PM on Friday, November 4, 2016 at Heritage Health in Gillespie, Illinois.  She was born on October 26, 1933 in Staunton, Illinois to William F. & Alvina M. (Faulstich) Ficker.  She married Robert F. Kapp on October 14, 1978 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Staunton, Illinois, & he preceded her in death on September 28, 1986. 

Joan was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Staunton.  She also graduated from Zion Lutheran School.  In the summer of 1951 after graduating from Staunton High School, she began working for the Federal Government in St. Louis, Missouri & continued there for 41 years before retiring on January 2, 1992. 

In addition to visiting with family & friends, Joan also enjoyed reading & shopping.  She liked sharing with many, but particularly enjoyed taking her nieces & nephews shopping when they were young and also loved winning at Bingo so she could give stuffed animals to her littlest great nieces & great nephews. 

She is survived by 2 sisters – LaVonne (Marlen) Dustmann & Patricia (Raymond “Joe”) Spudich – both of Staunton; sister-in-law – Joyce Ficker of Staunton; brother-in-law – Richard (Carol) Kapp of Staunton.  She also has 12 nieces & nephews – Susan (David) Cisler, Cynthia (Jason) Huhsman, Kevin (Paige) Dustmann, Rick (Andrea) Ficker, Michael Ficker, Jennifer Ficker, Nathan (Nancy) Spudich, Adrienne (Andy) Johnson, Tiffany (Brad Sherman) Spudich, Bill (Sylvia) Ficker, Daron (Alisha) Kapp, & Aaron (Laura) Kapp.  She also has 16 great nieces & great nephews. 

In addition to her husband & parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers – William F. Ficker Jr. on July 23, 1952 in the Korean War & Richard H. Ficker on May 25, 2011. 

Friends may call from 9 to 11 AM on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at Zion Lutheran Church in Staunton. Funeral services will follow at 11 AM at Zion Lutheran Church in Staunton, with Rev. Kelly Mitteis officiating.  Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Staunton, Illinois.  Memorials are suggested to either Zion Lutheran Church or School.
